A former Maryland church youth group leader was sentenced to 40 years in prison for molesting at least four boys in the 1980s.
A Montgomery County judge called Nathaniel Morales “a cowardly pervert” and “pathetic human being” before imposing the 40-year sentence.
Morales, who has been living in Las Vegas, was convicted of sexually abusing boys while he was a youth leader for Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg. He was accused of abusing the boys from 1983 to 1991 at group sleepovers and in their homes.
One of the victims, who was a teenager at the time of the abuse, spoke out following sentencing.
Morales told the judge he couldn’t remember the abuse because of severe memory loss.
