COLUMBIA, Md. - Howard County police arrested a Columbia man overnight in the sexual assault of an elderly woman on Sunday.
Michael Lawrence Pinkney, 54, of the 6500 block of Overheart Lane, has been charged with eight various counts of sex offenses, and one count each of assault and kidnapping.
Police said the 86-year-old victim, who will not be identified, reported to police that she was waiting at a bus stop in the 7000 block of Cradlerock Way around 2:45 p.m. when Pinkney allegedly drove up and offered her a ride. The woman got into the car and began directing the man where to drive when he turned into an empty business complex parking lot in the 10600 block of Little Patuxent Parkway.
The woman reported that the suspect parked, pulled her from the car and sexually assaulted her in nearby woods. She could only provide a limited description of the suspect, but reported he was driving a dark convertible sedan with tan interior.
The victim told police that after the man sexually assaulted her for approximately two hours, he fled and she walked to a nearby gas station where a customer called 911. She was transported to Howard County General Hospital, where she received treatment for her injuries and was released.
Police said through investigation and surveillance video in the area, investigators located a car matching the description of the suspect's vehicle, but the tag number was not visible. Detectives observed the car on video driving to the area of the assault with a driver and passenger and leaving two hours later without a passenger.
Police located a black BMW convertible with tan interior on Overheart Lane, and learned it was registered to Pinkney. After further investigation linking him to the crime, detectives served a search warrant at Pinkney's home and arrested him early this morning.
He is currently being held at the Howard County Detention Center on no bond.
