Funeral set for Pikesville boy killed in severe storm

The funeral for the 12-year-old Pikesville boy killed when a tree fell on him during last week’s severe storm is set for Tuesday.

Justin Diggs died while trying to take cover with other campers at the River Valley Ranch,  a Christian camp in Westminster. His wake is set for 10:30 a.m. and his funeral at 11 a.m. at the New Psalmist Baptist Church, located at 6020 Marion Drive in Baltimore.

The group of campers were in an open-air pavilion for a prayer service , about 150 yards away from a shelter hall at the campground.  A camp staff member saw the sky go dark quickly and began to usher the campers toward the hall. About 15-20 trees were brought down be the destructive wind. 

Carroll County Sheriff's Office Cpl. John Light said that the eight other boys who were injured by the falling debris were expected to survive .
