Fire officials initially said at least one floor of a Towson senior living facility was evacuated Wednesday morning in response to a fire inside the building, but later said no one was evacuated.
The Baltimore County Fire Department was called to the Blakehurst Retirement Community in the 1000 block of West Joppa Road around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, fire officials said.
When crews arrived, they found visible smoke on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the building. Shortly before 7:45 a.m., fire officials said evacuations were underway.
Shortly before 9 a.m., however, a fire department spokesman told ABC2 News no evacuations took place.
Medical units were also called to the scene.
The fire was under control shortly before 8:15 a.m.
West Joppa Road was closed at Chestnut Avenue. Alternate routes include Seminary Avenue and Towsontown Boulevard.
