Firefighter injured in fire that shuts down part of Russell Street

A Baltimore City firefighter was taken to the hospital after a fire on Portland Street downtown.

Baltimore emergency response officials shut down a segment of Russell Street at Washington Boulevard as firefighters tackle a three-story building fire.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of Portland Street for an active blaze with fire showing.

One firefighter was injured in the blaze and transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Baltimore’s Office of Emergency Management urged drivers to seek alternate routes if heading downtown.

"@BaltimoreFire is responding to a building fire on Portland St near Camden Yards. Avoid Russell St in the area of the stadium complex," reads a tweet from the Officer of Emergency Management.
