ROCKVILLE, Md. - Rockville police helped capture a black bear in the city Thursday.
Police said the approximately 150 pound bear, which they said did not pose an imminent threat to life or safety, roamed in residential areas and toward rural land in the direction of I-270.
Police said it is relatively common for black bears to be spotted pushing south into Montgomery County from more rural northern areas, and the local police and animal control personnel have responded to several sightings over the past two years, said Lt. Eric Over.
Typically the animals move north again as they find places like Rockville not conducive to settling down in, Over said.
