Arthur has strengthened to a hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean as it moves toward North Carolina.
The storm was upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane early Thursday and was moving steadily north at about 8 miles per hour as of 6 a.m. Thursday.
Hurricane watches and warnings extend along the coast of North Carolina.
Maryland will get see the impact of Hurricane Arthur starting Thursday evening and into Friday morning. This will come in the form of rain as well as possible rip currents and high waves on coastal beaches.
A flash flood watch will go into effect for most of the state of Maryland around 1 p.m. Thursday and will linger into the night.
