The shock is setting in for Joann Glenn.
"Wow, she died. She died," said Glenn.
Glenn had just spoken to the victim of the fire, a woman neighbors called "Ms. Cathy."
"We were just talking about the dog and then I went in the house and then 10 minutes later I come outside and her house was engulfed in flames," said Glenn.
The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of Royal Court Dr. in Woodlawn. Hoses were dragged across the snow and ice, but Division Chief Kuruc says the weather didn't slow down firefighters. They found the victim minutes after arriving.
"There was a large volume of fire. The fire extended into the attic and basically all parts of the occupancy," said Kuruc.
The house was linked to another home, but it did not burn through the fire wall.
Neighbors knew Ms. Cathy for her love for animals. Her dog was found dead inside the home, as well.
We're told she had one son and was a visible presence in the neighborhood for years.
"She would jog down the street and I would catch her and there and she would say hey good morning, what's up," said Coqunetay Glenn, a neighbor.
Investigators still don't know the cause of the fire.
