Man Found After Maryland's First 'Silver Alert'

Last Update: 11/03/2009 5:26 pm

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland State Police have canceled the state's first Silver Alert for a missing vulnerable adult after the man was found in Baltimore.

Monday's alert for 84-year-old Arthur Mulkey of Linthicum ended Tuesday morning when a Baltimore Gas and Electric employee found the man near South Haven Street and Eastern Avenue in good condition. He gave the worker his phone number and police were called.

Howard County authorities issued the alert when his family contacted police to report him missing. Mulkey and his son were returning from a hunting trip near Cumberland when his son realized he didn't get home.

The system began Oct. 1. This alert was the state's first use of a new method to find missing vulnerable adults.

Maryland State Police have issued the state's first Silver Alert for a missing vulnerable adult.

Troopers say 84-year-old Arthur Mulkey of Howard County was last seen Sunday west of Frederick on eastbound I-70 at the Route 40 exit.

Mulkey is described as being five feet, seven inches tall, weighting about 160 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes.  He was driving a red, 2000 Chevrolet S-10 truck with Maryland registration 46L477.

Anyone who has information about Mulkey should call the Howard County Police northern district or dial 911.

The Silver Alert is new notification system for missing seniors with cognitive disorders. Legislation enabling the system took effect Oct. 1.
