Many students are already wearing their costumes at the Maryland School for the Deaf, and you can see signs of Halloween in decorations all over campus.
But when Frederick City Police responded to an emergency call from a staff member reporting a sexual assault on a boy late Tuesday, the threat became real.
"The people involved are familiar with each other and as far as the act goes, I'm not going to get into the details,” said Frederick Police Captain Kevin Grubb, “Obviously because they're still questioning people and we don't want information out that people who aren't interviewed yet by the detectives to know that information, we're going to keep all that to ourselves for right now."
On a campus with 350 students, what we have learned is that the alleged attack occurred in one of the residential dorms and involved two or more male students in their late teens.
At this point, no one is in police custody nor has anyone been charged in connection with the assault.
While it’s early in the investigation, police are only commenting on the matter to put to rest any fears that there could be a sexual predator on the loose.
"The parents that have students there shouldn't be worried that there's somebody lurking around the campus that their kids don't know. So, that's one good thing," said Capt. Grubb.
Police say the doctors treated the student, and he has since been released.
