A local organization is collecting toy guns from children in advance of Halloween.
Nawal Rajeh Peace Camp is holding a party from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday to celebrate its 10th anniversary, and is collecting toy guns in exchange for prizes. The guns will be turned into artwork, according to a release from the organization.
Peace Camp is calling for more prizes, such as basketballs, jump ropes or art supplies, to give to children in exchange for toy guns. To help out, call 443-255-5600.
The party will be held at the St. Frances Academy Community Center at 501 E. Chase Street.
In a release, Peace Camp leaders said they are honoring Tamir Rice, a young boy shot two years ago on a playground in Cleveland when he was holding a toy gun.
In April, Baltimore Police shot a a 13-year-old who was holding a replica handgun.
