The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene released a car emergency supply kit checklist ahead of the winter storm.
The DHMH Office of Preparedness and Response suggests including:
- Jumper cables
- Blankets/Sleeping bags
- Books, hat and gloves
- Phone and car charger
- Chains or traction tires
- First aid kit
- Flares
- Flashlight and batteries
- Food and water
- Ice scraper and snow brush
- Kitty litter for tire traction
- Matches or lighter
- Maps
- Snow shovel
- Tools
- Windshield washer fluid
The department also warns that if someone is stuck in a traffic jam of their car becomes disabled to stay with the vehicle. Run the engine and heater for short intervals. Crack a window in the vehicle to avoid carbon monoxide build-up. Listen to the radio for updated traffic and emergency information. Finally, drink fluids to avoid dehydration.
