With Hurricane Irma's path coming to the U.S., travel agents are urging people to be proactive with their flights and travel plans.

If you are, or were, planning on traveling to Florida, the key is to check your options.

If you are booking a trip around hurricane season in general, travel insurance can always help. If you have already booked your trip, some plans allow you to cancel for any reason.

Most importantly, always read the fine print when making your travel plans.

While there are advantages of booking your own trip, when you book with a travel agent, they will be able to tell you based on your region what policies you have, and what you are covered for when you travel.

While not all flights are cancelled right now, if you have travel plans, be sure to keep an eye on all travel warnings and contact your travel agent or airline.
