Members of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland fanned out across the state this morning to offer "Ashes to Go" for people too busy to get to church for Ash Wednesday.

One group set up outside the Iglesia de la Resurreccion, or Church of Resurrection, off of Fayette Street in Baltimore.

They offered ashes to people at the bus stop, both in English and in Spanish.

"It's taking the church to where the people are," said Rev. Chilton Knudsen, assistant bishop with the Diocese of Maryland. "People seem to really appreciate the chance to touch in and have that spiritual experience as they're going about their day."

Rev. Knudsen said about 30 churches within the Diocese participated in "Ashes to Go."  She says it's grown in popularity over the years and many churches throughout the country offer it as well.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Lenten season in Christianity.
