Fire damaged roof of Fort Meade Pet Care Center, services suspended

A fire damaged the roof of the Fort Meade Pet Care Center in Fort Meade, Md. Thursday evening.

Owners said the fire broke out around 7:15 p.m. and burned for 30 minutes. Fort Meade and Anne Arundel County firefighters extinguished the blaze, and police and first responders helped rescue more than 30 dogs and cats inside.

One cat was sent to emergency veterinary services for observation. The remaining pets were unharmed and no other injuries were reported.

The Fort Meade Pet Care Center offers doggie day care and boarding services for dogs and cats.

Center owners said day care services are suspended until further notice, and customers with pets at the facility are being notified. Anyone who hasn’t yet been contacted can call 301-677-4059.
