Pastor starts health plan addressing diet and fitness at church

The pastor who delivered the inaugural prayer for President Obama is also author of the best-selling book "The Purpose Driven Life."

Pastor Rick Warren is now taking on a new mission: Curbing the obesity epidemic at church.

Warren is the pastor at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California.

He admitted to gaining 90 pounds over the last 30 years and failing at various diets.

After baptizing a number of overweight people in his congregation, he now wants to motive his audience to get on a healthier path, so he started a program at his church to help the members.

He has recruited three doctors to help him create a plan that would include how to eat healthier foods and taking part in workout routines.

Studies show that people who try to lose weight or adopt healthier habits in groups tend to be more successful at it, and Warren believes this will work for people at the church.

Since January 2011, he has shed 60 pounds on his " Daniel Plan."

About 15,000 people have registered on his plan and about 250,000 pounds have been lost.

Founders want to spread the plan to different faith based communities across the world.
