You live in the city but that doesn't mean you need to leave to have a picnic. There is plenty of green space to throw down a blanket and enjoy some delicious food outside.

Megan and I were given a picnic basket courtesy of the good people of Roland Park Place and challenged to find the best picnic spot in Baltimore.

We gave it a lot of thought and tried to come up with places that weren't too obvious. Federal Hill Park is one of my favorite spots in Baltimore but it's a little cliche. Riverside Park is nice but too many dogs. I loves dogs but my pup prefers only human contact.

We finally chose Fort McHenry.  Huge green space. Right on the water. We could do a quick lap around the fort after we ate to work off the food.

We went during the first gorgeous spring weekend of the year and this was not an original idea. I think half of Baltimore was at the fort! We managed to get a picnic table under some trees with a little view of the water.

We laid a blanket out, tied the dog to the leg of the table and set up our delicious spread. We had herbed goat cheese, gouda, pepperoni, asiago bread crisps, pistachios, and banana crisps. There was also some Reese's peanut butter cups!

And no picnic is complete without wine. We had a delicious bottle of syrah from Boordy Vineyards (Yay local!)

Fort McHenry is such a big area so we weren't on top of other people while we ate our lunch. There are lots of benches, tables, and trees to just hang out around.

It didn't even feel like we were in the city! You may think of it as a historic spot but it's also a gorgeous park to walk around or even just lay in the grass and read a good book. It is one of my favorite spots in Baltimore!
