The Governor's buy local cookout will officially kick off Maryland's Buy Local Challenge Week.

At the Governor's cookout, 17 teams of local producers and chefs prepared recipes showcasing local products available in Maryland. Chefs could choose their dish so there will be a variety of options at the cookout.

This kicks off Maryland Buy Local Challenge Week which runs from July 23 - 31. It encourages all Marylanders to eat at least one locally grown or raised product every day of the challenge.

The cookout tonight is from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m at the Government House and it is by invitation only. But if you want to try your hand at some local cooking you can check out the recipes here.

One of tonight's featured chef's is First Lady Yumi Hogan. Her recipe in the book is "Beef Bulgogi with Romaine Lettuce and Napa Cabbage Salad." Look for it on page 47.

Megan and I will be in attendance at the cookout tonight and I plan to try to cook recipes from the buy local cookbook everyday next week to answer the Governor's challenge.
