GREENVILLE, S.C. - It looked like a scene from outside a store on Black Friday. Hundreds of parents running to the doors of an elementary school on registration day. One mother was trampled in the madness and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The reason? This school in Greenville, South Carolina is the only school that offers an engineering curriculum, according to WYFF, making it very desirable to parents. It started with parents just camping out and grew in intensity as more moms and dads started vying for those coveted spots.
The school district did not allow parents to start lining up until after dismissal in hopes of alleviating the chaos. But when the throng of parents headed toward the doors, one woman fell, and needed to be taken to the hospital.
Administrators tell WYFF they are now looking into different methods of filling the spots, such as a lottery system.
As for the injured woman, she's expected to be okay and her child did get a spot at the school.
