The double shooting happened at the TA Jessup Travel Center around 1PM Sunday.

Witnesses tell us one of the victims was hit and killed on the spot.

"I couldn't believe it, nobody expects to walk out of church and run into a dead body, a guy mortally injured,” said truck driver Edward Winrow.  “You could see the blood coming out his head, he was obviously dead."

Howard County Police say a second man was also shot, and the 57-year-old was still alive.

"There were people around him helping him, the rescue squad, a bunch of cops and people assisting him," truck driver Jason Solph said.

The Baltimore man was flown to the hospital.  Officers started a manhunt for the gunman.  The area was locked down while they searched.  Parts of Route 1 and Route 175 were blocked off, and no one was allowed in or out of the truck stop.

"We've been pretty much trapped, can't think of a better word for it, no one was allowed to leave," Winrow said.

Investigators say the suspect is an Asian man wearing jeans and a blue jacket.  So far, no word on why he opened fire.

"That it may have started inside in an argument, that's all I heard people talk about," said Solph.

Around 5:30PM the roads were opened back up.  Police tell us they think the gunman left the Jessup area, and say there are no indications that he is a threat.

"At this time we believe that this was an isolated incident, we don't believe that the community at large is in danger," said Howard County Police Public Information Officer, Mary T Phelan.

The injured shooting victim was taken to Shock Trauma.  Sunday night his condition was upgraded from critical to stable.
