Obama's new immigration policy will project younger illegal immigrants

BALTIMORE - Things are changing for a select group of illegal immigrants. President Obama has announced a policy shift that will protect younger illegal immigrants from being deported.

Immigrant groups are excited about the policy shift, but opponents say it's a dangerous door to open.

Later Monday House republicans against the new policy will hold a press conference in DC. The policy could affect as many as 800,000 undocumented immigrants.

Effective immediately deportation will no longer be enforced under these guidelines. It protects illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. before they were 16 and are not older than 30, and have live in the U.S. for at least 5 years with no criminal record.

For young immigrants who came here illegally with their parents the new policy is huge.

Those who back the policy in Maryland say it complements the dream act which is up for referendum this November.

It would grant in-state tuition to some illegal immigrants.
