NRA to announce gun recommendations to stop violence in schools

NRA to release school safety plan

Today The National Rifle Association will announce its recommendations for preventing gun violence in school.

It first announced the National School Shield Program in December in response to the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy.

On its website, the NRA promised to come up with a set of school safety proposals. The proposals reportedly include training recommendations to prepare guards at schools and legislative proposals for Congress.

The announcement comes as lawmakers in Connecticut reach a deal on new gun control measures. The measures will not take guns or ammunition magazines away. But the proposals would give Connecticut some of the toughest gun laws in the country, including universal background checks.
