Meet Nancy Jacobs, candidate for Congressional District 2

Republican candidate for District 2

Name:  Nancy Jacobs (currently State Senator,  District 34-- Harford and Cecil County)

Party : Republican

Location: Congressional District 2

Please introduce yourself:

In Congress my number one goal is to increase jobs for Marylanders.  As a former small business owner I know what it will take.  I don't want our children to inherit a huge national debt and I plan to work in a non partisan fashion to get past the gridlock in Congress so we can see job growth once again.  Business needs to feel confident government is acting to address our economic woes so they have the confidence to expand and create jobs.  If you vote for Jacobs you vote for jobs.

I have served my constituents in the Maryland General Assembly as a Delegate, Senator and as Senate Minority Leader. Now I want to serve the people of District 2 in Congress.  As a state legislator I passed Jessica's Law to protect children from sex predators, I passed the first gang legislation and I received a 100% from ranking for expanding jobs in the state from a prominent business group.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?

I have integrity, work very hard and know what it will take to accomplish the will of the constituents in District 2.  I put the people who elected me first and will get the job done by showing results.  I work well with both Democrats and Republicans. The gridlock in Congress is harmful to the success of this country and Congress should not be engaging in political gamesmanship. I have an excellent record of constituent service and have been reelected in my State Senate District by large margins even though it is predominately Democrat.  The people of District 2 have had a representative who has languished too long in the halls of Congress without providing them real results!

Which answer best matches your view?

Same-sex marriage

Should same-sex couples be able to get married in Maryland?

No *

Summarize your view on the issue (for candidates)

While I believe that same sex couples should be afforded the same civil rights as a married couple, I do not support same sex marriage.

Illegal immigration/In-state tuition DREAM Act

Should Maryland offer in-state tuition for college to undocumented immigrants?

I'm not sure/Neither

Summarize your view on the issue

The immigration issue has been ignored too long at the national level and must be addressed.  But in Maryland, especially at a time when citizens are struggling with less income and unemployment, it is inappropriate to use tax dollars to subsidize the college education of undocumented immigrants.

Should Maryland allow another casino to be built in Prince George's County?

I'm not sure /Neither

Summarize your views on the issue

I believe the gambling dollar is limited and building another mega-sized casino at National Harbor could pose a big risk to the ones already approved by the state.  I believe the situation should be studied thoroughly before being decided and not pushed through too quickly only to appease special interests.

What is the best option for healthcare in America?

President Obama's Health Care Act is a great start towards fixing healthcare in America.

We should repeal President Obama's Health Care Act and start over*

All healthcare should be privatized.

Neither/Other/I'm not sure

Summarize your view on the issue

If elected, I will vote to repeal the Healthcare Reform Act and work hard to replace it with an alternative plan that brings down healthcare costs and better serves the American people.

I do support provisions such as the portability of health insurance plans across state lines through the promotion of interstate health insurance exchanges. I believe that ultimately competition improves quality, promotes innovation and reduces cost.

I support meaningful tort reform that balances the patient's rights to safe, effective and quality care with reasonable limits that help reduce the cost of healthcare services by preventing frivolous lawsuits. I also support tort reform because it increases access for patients to quality care. We have seen clear cut cases where specialty physicians opt against practicing in states lacking meaningful tort reform because their costs of practicing medicine with malpractice insurance exceed the actual amount of billing.

I strongly believe that bureaucrats should never be in the examination room and I will act to preserve the doctor-patient relationship, period.

How can we improve the economy in Maryland?

*We should simplify the tax code, and lower tax rates so that investors can put money back into the economy*

We should lower taxes on the middle

and lower classes and raise them on the wealthy.

Other/I'm not sure

Summarize your view on the issue

We need to restore confidence to the private sector and small business by letting them know it's a safe investment to expand and create more jobs.  This can be only done only if Congress acts as a body to address the economic, tax and regulatory issues that make business owners unsure of the future.   Right now inaction by Congress leaves fear that corporate and other taxes will rise significantly and automatic cuts to federal government will take place in January.  Congress must act on a plan to address its financial future.

What should we do with Afghanistan?

*We need to keep working there until it is a true democracy*

We need to get out of Afghanistan as soon as possible.

Other/I'm not sure

Summarize your view on the issue

I believe the risk of instability in the region is extremely dangerous to not just Israel, but to Americans and the world.  We saw a hint of what could happen when our Ambassador and others were murdered in Libya. While our goal should be an end to the war and we hope to achieve peace, we must be sure we don't leave a situation that can deteriorate into mass unrest.   I believe we must listen carefully to the advice of our military leaders on this and not decide our actions based upon a popular view for the sake of our own political gain.

What are your views on abortion?

It is a woman's right to choose. The government shouldn't be involved.

*Abortion should only be allowed in extreme cases like rape, or to protect the health of the mother*

Abortion is never OK.

Other/I'm not sure

Summarize your views on the issue

I am a pro life candidate.
