Congressional Democrats from Maryland are hoping lawmakers from the other side of the aisle will help them obtain records on Jared Kushner's real estate company.

Rep. Elijah Cummings sent a letter asking Republicans on the House committee on Oversight and Government Reform to join him in sending a letter to the Kushner Companies asking for the records Democrats first requested two months ago.

Democrats are looking into the Kushner Companies' rental practices at an apartment complex in Baltimore. They want to find out if the units meet the standards for properties involved in federal subsidy programs.

In his letter, Cummings said that if Republicans do not want to help, he asks that the committee allow its members to vote on a motion to issue a subpoena to compel Kushner to turn over the requested documents.

The original letter requesting the records, which was sent in August, was signed by several lawmakers, including Senators Ben Cardin, and Chris Van Hollen, as well as Representatives C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarabanes, and Anthony Brown.

Jared Kushner is the son-in-law of President Donald Trump and was CEO of the Kushner Cos. from 2008 until January of 2017.
