Hospital bans soda

KANSAS CITY, Miissouri -

A Detroit hospital asked workers to sign a "No pop pledge." Now, another hospital plans to ban the sale of sugary drinks, altogether.

It's an effort to combat obesity. Soon, soda will no longer be sold in vending machines at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

"We are eliminating the sale of sugar sweetened beverages as of January 1st, 2013," said a hospital spokesperson.

There will be exceptions however: a child who's dehydrated and only wants to drink sprite will still get it. And parents, patients and employees are welcome to bring their own into the hospital.
