WASHINGTON, DC - Three District of Columbia police officers have been arrested following an internal affairs operation.
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier announced the arrests Tuesday, with authorities saying the officers tried to purchase what they thought was stolen property.
Lanier described the goods as electronic equipment, but declined to be more specific.
She said she did not believe that the officers worked together.
The department suspended Guillermo Ortiz, Silvestre Bonilla and Dioni Fernandez.
It was not immediately clear if they had lawyers.
They were arrested Tuesday and are due in court this week.
Police say their case is not connected to another sting in which an officer was arrested Saturday.
That officer is accused of agreeing to monitor a police radio during a burglary.
Police union head Kristopher Baumann declined to comment while the criminal charges are pending.
