Paul Tond, 32, of Brooklyn, Maryland was sentenced to 20 years with 10 years of active jail time for stabbing his mother in the chest while she slept.
Tond’s mother was found alive and was able to tell officers that her son attempted to steal her prescription medications.
She also informed officers that she slept with the medications under her clothing, because her son had attempted to steal her medications before.
Tond punched his mother in the face several times and stabbed her with a non-serrated steak knife in the torso, according to a statement released by the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office.
His mother told Tond she needed medical help, but Tond wouldn't let her call or leave the house. Eventually, he allowed her to leave and she fled to a neighbor's house.
He pleaded guilty on September 15, 2016.
Tond was convicted for multiple prior violations of protective orders and two prior assaults, according to the state’s attorney.
