A Baltimore County Police officer fatally shot a dog this morning, police said.

Police responded to the 400 block of Doe Meadow Drive in Owings Mills around 9:15 a.m., police said, for a call reporting an animal bite.

A woman, who was walking her dog at the time, was bitten by another dog, police said. The woman tried to scare the dog off with a "metal baton," and called police when that didn't work.

When police arrived, the dog attacked an officer, so the officer fired a single shot, killing the dog, police said.

The woman was only bitten on her clothes and purse, according to police. She and her dog are unharmed.
