Newlywed insurance

When a couple gets married, a number of financial documents may need to be revised. Insurance policies are one such category of papers. First, there's the matter of health insurance. One of you may want to switch over to the other's health-care plan, depending on which person has better coverage. Often, a spouse may be added to an existing plan at a discounted rate. You'll also want to examine your homeowner's or renter's insurance. If you're combining households, make sure the present policy will cover the value of both people's property. If not, you may need to raise the amount of coverage on the contents. Auto insurance is another area to check. Should you insure all your cars with the same company? Find out who has the best rates, and if discounts are available for putting all family cars on one policy. Life insurance policies may need to be revised as well, to add your spouse as a beneficiary. Finally, if the bride is taking the groom's last name, she should make sure all her insurance documents are changed to reflect her married name.
