Flood facts and coverage

Did you know that homeowner's insurance does not cover flooding? You may think you're safe from flooding because you live in a low risk area, but there are a few facts you should know. According to the national flood insurance program, ninety percent of all disasters in the united states are flood related. It's the most common and widespread of all natural disasters. Flooding can be caused by hurricanes, storm surges, water run-off and even heavy rains. You don't have to live by water to be at risk for flooding. Thirty percent of all flood insurance claims come from low risk areas. For an annual premium, a flood insurance policy will protect your home, apartment or business. Be aware that some insurance policies have a waiting period for flood policies to take effect. It may be too late when you hear about impending storms. Consult an insurance agency in your area for more information about flood insurance.
