Lubrication system

Your car's lubrication system helps reduce the intense heat and friction produced by the engine. The lubrication system consists of an oil pump, oil filter, dipstick, oil filler cap, oil pan and of course, oil. The oil reduces friction by forming a thin, slippery film on the metal parts of your engine. Oil also carries dirt from your engine and into the filter. The oil pump is responsible for sending the oil through the filter and throughout the passages of the engine. From there it drains back into the oilpan where the cycle begins again. The constant circulation of oil also aids in dissipating engine heat. The dipstick is used to measure the amount of oil in the lubrication system and the filler cap is where oil is added. It is recommended that you change the oil about every three thousand miles to extend the life of your engine.
