ATLANTA, Georgia - Jason Barnes has been using and testing a new robotic drumming prosthesis developed especially for him by Georgia Tech Center for Music Technology.
The prosthesis utilizes electromyography to pick up on electrical signals in his upper arm muscles allowing him to control how quickly it moves.
It also has a second drumstick controlled by a motor that senses the rhythm Jason is playing and produces a complimentary beat.
He says this new technology, with the extra drumstick, can be used for a lot more than just making music. Jason is testing out the robotic prosthesis for his first live show this weekend.
