Thursday was a big night for gaming and the state of Maryland, the MGM National Harbor Casino and Resort opened it's doors.

The MGM will be the 6th casino in Maryland, joining the likes of Horsehoe Casino, Maryland LIVE! and Perryville Races and Slots.

It's a casino, hotel, food and shopping haven, with more than 15 different eateries ranging from Shake Shack to gourmet outlets from celebrity chefs like Marcus Samuelsson and Jose Andres.

"We're going to have live music and craft cocktails open kitchen see cooks working," Samuelsson said.

"For me MGM coming to home town is great news and when they come to me three years ago and say Jose you want to be a part of this i was like yes," Andres said.

The $1.4 billion project is expected to create jobs and bring in tourists.

"We are a big important industry and our jobs are every bit as patriotic as any other kind of job in the united states," said MGM General Manager, Jim Murren.

Traditionally, casino revenue goes to the state's education fund. Almost half of the revenue this year went to education, and close to 6 percent went to state grants.
