Villain Chad causing trouble on The Bachelorette

Did you know the Bachelor Mansion features an all-you-can-eat meat situation?

Well, it does, and viewers of Monday night’s episode of The Bachelorette were treated to extended footage of contestant and resident villain Chad hoovering down his weight in meat at the L.A. house.

The luxury real estate agent from Oklahoma explained to the cameras that he needs to eat that much to maintain his 6’4", muscular physique. We also saw him doing pull ups with his suitcase attached to him, and insulting just about everyone, including Bachelorette JoJo Fletcher.

Getting the sense that Chad seems to be a bit of a meathead? Pretty much. It’s only week two, and the other men mostly all hate him.

This week’s episode opened with a group date in which a bunch of the men donned firefighter gear and worked to put out a fire. One man named Wells almost passed out, and another named Grant—a professional firefighter!!!impressed JoJo with his skills.

Talk about an unfair advantage.

Contestant Derek got a one-on-one date with JoJo, and it was actually pretty cool. It was a choose-your-own-adventure-themed date, where they got in a car and decided which direction they wanted to go, and then made a series of other choices that eventually landed them in San Francisco. Over dinner, Derek confessed he’d had a hard time opening himself up to women after his last relationship ended three years ago because she cheated. (We hear a version of this story every season, usually several times.) He got a kiss and a rose, though.

Most of this episode’s drama unfolded during the second group date, during which the men appeared on ESPN’s Sports Nation … errr, Bachelor Nation. The men were asked to give JoJo their best proposals, and Chad—who pointed out repeatedly that he had just met JoJo and therefore couldn’t say what he loved most about her—was not having it.

“You’re a little naggy,” Chad said after JoJo prompted him to express his affections.

Then he ranted about all the other contestants who think they’re in love with JoJo without even knowing her.

Which, I agree, is ridiculous, but calling her naggy was just rude. If you don’t know her, how do you know she’s naggy?

JoJo nonetheless praised Chad for his honestly, which didn’t sit well with the others. Back at the mansion, Chad continued to eat all the meat and get into profanity-laced arguments.

His voiceover during the rose ceremony was an absolute treat. When JoJo handed roses to two apparently shorter men, Chad noted that must be because she “doesn’t want America to think she hates short people.” He was the last to receive a rose, while JoJo sent home a man identified on the show as a “Bachelor superfan” (aim higher in life) and another ID’d as a hipster.

“I feel like Chad is overcompensating for something, but I don’t know what,” JoJo said.

Maybe we’ll find out next week. Watch Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC2!
