Ellen DeGeneres got emotional while receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
She was one of 21 people who received the highest civilian honor in the nation.
Tears welled up in her eyes as President Obama awarded the entertainment mogul.
In his speech, President Obama commended DeGeneres for taking the chance of a lifetime almost 20 years ago. “What an incredible burden that was to bear, to risk her career like that. People don't do that very often, and then to have the hopes of millions on your shoulders,” Obama said.
The President also highlighted her way of making people laugh at something rather than someone.
DeGeneres almost missed the ceremony because she forgot to bring her ID.
