TV host RYAN SEACREST has joined the ranks of the Hollywood stars who have been 'swatted' by pranksters in recent weeks.
On Wednesday (11Apr13), the American Idol presenter became the latest victim of a fake emergency call - just hours after interviewing funnyman Russell Brand about his own 'swatting' experience earlier this week (09Apr13).
According to TMZ.com, a team of cops raided Seacrest's house to investigate claims four "mobster-looking guys in suits with rifles" were inside the property firing shots, but they quickly determined the call was a prank.
The hoaxes have become a problem for Los Angeles Police Department bosses after crank callers targeted a string of A-list celebrities including Rihanna, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Justin Timberlake.
Dispatchers are being trained to help identify when a prankster reports violence in a bid to stop calls diverting resources from responding to real crimes.
But Brand admitted on Seacrest's radio show on Wednesday that he can understand why kids call in the hoaxes, stating, "I think if I were a teenager I'd definitely do it, but what would be bad would be if the police were attending a swatting and then an actual crime happened and it took the police too long to get there because they were doing a swatting, but other than that it sounds like a laugh."
