BALTIMORE - Your commute was probably messy if you left work or school late Wednesday afternoon.

Road crews worked through the night to make sure the Thursday morning commute goes more smoothly.

Mike Nieberlein told ABC2 he wishes we had more snow.

Of course, you might expect that from a snow plow driver.

This weather keeps them busy, and busy is something they have not been this winter.

Wednesday night was a different story.

Nieberlein told ABC2, "We're just gonna keep salting and try to keep ahead of it so it won't freeze."

Roger Moore has been spreading salt on York Road for 18 years and explained the process:.

"[We] keep spreading salt every 2 hours on the hour, keep an eye on the road conditions, wait for a call from the supervisors and then go hit the hot spots like turn lanes, exit ramps and stuff like that."

They've got the roads covered, but you may have some work to do in the morning. That may mean clearing off your car or salting your sidewalks.

Sean O'Brien from Ayd Hardware in Towson said the mild winter has left them with plenty of rock salt and shovels.

"Normally we get a few orders a year. This year we just got the one order in and have been chipping away at it.... Two years ago we sold over 1,500. This year we sold a couple hundred," he said.
