Heavy Rain & High Winds Move Into Maryland

A potent January storm which has been responsible for producing 6 unconfirmed tornadoes, 340 wind reports, and 12 hail reports will slowly move into Maryland this afternoon.

Temperatures are running some 30-35 degrees above normal across the state in response to this strong storm currently located over the Midwest. The storm not only is producing severe weather on the east side of it's large circulation, but also is dumping several inches of snow causing blizzard conditions over Wisconsin.

What to expect

Rain: MODERATE Heavy rain moves in after 4pm lasting through the evening commute. Flooding potential is moderate at this time. Rain totals 1-3" on average.

Wind: Wind Risk is HIGH. Winds will gust to 40mph later this afternoon  however, isolated areas could see winds as high as 60mph

Thunderstorms: LOW However, thunder can be expected

Tornado: Threat remains LOW *** Isolated threat potential ***

Coastal Flooding: MODERATE Tides will increase 2 FEET above normal late this afternoon into the overnight. Minor shoreline inundation of all coastal areas on the western shore of the bay from AA county to Cecil county.
