So I decided to scan the National Weather Service climate summaries for highs across the United States today. After all, with Baltimore hitting 105F, (at the airport and in the harbor), and Frederick hitting a mighty 106F, not too many places in the country would be able to keep up, even in early July.

Arizona - Nevada - Southeastern California - it didn't matter where I looked, I just couldn't find a recorded max temp that beat out good ole Frederick, MD. In fact, the only "tie" I found was Needles, California - which sits on the Arizona border in the Mojave` Desert. Wow.

Hot Stats! Here are a few answers hot off the press to answers some of the other questions that are probably burning in your brain after today.

-Q: What's the hottest temp ever recorded in Maryland? A: 109F in Cumberland and, you guessed it, Frederick. That was on July 10, 1936. We didn't quite get there today at any of Maryland's airports, but a weather spotter in Wolfsville did report 109F today.

-Q: What about at BWI / Baltimore? A: The hottest high temp on record at BWI is 107F, also on July 10, 1936. However, Tuesdays record high was also a "tie for 2nd" all time - as BWI has gotten up to 105F only four other times in recorded history.

-Q: What about Wednesdays record? Any chance we will smash it too? A: Yes, we have a very good chance. The old record on July 7th at BWI stands at a mere 99F, and here at ABC 2 we are forecasting a 2 Degree Guarantee of 103F on Wednesday.
