Washington Monument Lighting to close many streets in Mt. Vernon

The 41st annual lighting of the Washington Monument will close several roads in Mt. Vernon on Thursday, December 6.

Festivities will start at 5:30p.m. The official ceremony begins at 7:00p.m. with the lighting at approximately 7:45p.m.

The following streets will be closed:

  • 9:00a.m. to 11:00p.m. - West Mt. Vernon Place from Charles to Cathedral Streets
  • 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. – West drive of North Charles Street from Centre to Madison Streets
  • 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. – East drive of North Charles Street from Centre to Madison Streets and East Mt. Vernon Place from Charles to St. Paul Streets


Parking restrictions will be in effect in the following areas:

  • 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. – West Mt. Vernon Place from Charles to Cathedral Streets and along the west drive of North Charles Street from Centre to Madison Streets
  • 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. – East drive of North Charles Street from Centre to Madison Streets, East Mt. Vernon Place from North Charles to St. Paul Streets and the north side of Centre Street from Cathedral to Calvert Streets
