GOLD COAST, Australia - Michael Phelps is relishing the chance to race Ian Thorpe again at next year's Olympics, hoping to avenge a loss to the man who preceded him as swimming's biggest star.
The 14-time Olympic gold medalist freely admits he hates to lose. So news of Thorpe's attempt to qualify for the 2012 Olympics couldn't have come as any better motivation for training.
The Australian beat Phelps in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2004 Olympic final.
Phelps said "having the opportunity to race somebody like him again -- maybe in the 200 freestyle -- will be super fun."
