FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - For the first time in the history of Loyola College, now University, the Greyhounds hold a division one championship.

Today at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, the Greyhounds beat rival Maryland in lacrosse 9-3.

With a victory like this you have to think of people like Diane Geppi Aikens, the Mangione's, Vincent Bagli, Nap Doughtery, John Stewart and Lefty Reitz, and Patty Edelman.

Those are just some of the names that built Loyola into what it is today. And today the North Charles campus sits on top of the lacrosse world.

What a dominating performance against the tough Terps today 9-3.

It all started with a tailgate in the southwest corner of Gillette Stadium...and the cheering never stopped.  Viewing parties were held at Ryans Daughter, the Greatest Bar in Boston, the Park Tavern in New York, and Cavanaughs in Philly.

Eric Lusby scored 4 goals, had a record 17 tallys in the tournament.  There were 11 local kids on the team and with just under 4,000 undergrads, Loyola becomes the smallest division one title holder.

So Janine Tucker, Marty Stewart, Janet Plunkett, Brian Kroneberger and Gary Hanley, this one is for you.  Release the hounds.
