PIMLICO - Ventana prevailed in the AMResorts Maryland Sprint.
Ventana prevailed over Immortal Eyes followed by a hotly contested stretch duel to win the $100,000 AMResorts Maryland Sprint Handicap.
Jockey Travis Dunkelberger, aboard Immortal Eyes, claimed foul against Garcia and Ventana, claiming interference during the late stages of the stretch run, but the stewards did not rule in his favor.
Garcia said the he thinks "the other horse and I were pretty close, but I corrected it right away. It looked like I had contact, but I really didn’t. It’s been a while since I won on him, so it felt good.”
Ventana won by a neck and stopped the clock in 1:09.88 for the six-furlong distance.
China finished third.
