PIMLICO - No Explaining (IRE) came off the rail and powered to victory in the $100,000 Omnilife Gallorette Handicap over the Pimlico turf.
Shared Account, the 2010 Breeders' Cup Fillies and Mare Turf winner, closed from the pace to finish fourth while conceding 10-13 pounds to her rivals in her 2011 debut.
No Explaining, under Jockey John Velaquez, completed 11/16 miles in 1:46.65.
Velazquez says “It was a perfect trip. There were a couple of speedy horses in there and I had to bide my time thinking that the good horses are coming from behind anyway. At the quarter pole, I put her in the clear and she put in a good fight. She was much better today than when I rode her last year definitely. She was more professional, more willing to do it and handled the track much better.”
Desert Sage and Dyna Waltz finished in a dead heat for second.
Roger Attfield trains No Explaining, who left the maiden ranks in England in 2009.
She won two races in 2010 and made a successful 2011 debut with a win on the turf on April 16 at Keeneland.
The Gallorette is her first stakes victory, paying $8.80.
