BALTIMORE - The Indianapolis Colts have hired Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano as their new head coach.

The 51-year-old Pagano replaces Jim Caldwell, who was fired after the Colts' 2-14 season in which quarterback Peyton Manning never played a single down as he recovered from neck surgery.

Pagano spent three years as the Ravens' secondary coach before being named defensive coordinator in January 2011. He also spent two years as defensive backs coach in Oakland (2005-06) and four years with Cleveland (2001-04), in addition to college jobs at Miami and North Carolina among others.

John Harbaugh says the team is happy for Chuck's move. "We are so happy for Chuck, Tina and their daughters. We are proud of him. Like me, Chuck grew up in the game and loves it. We will miss him and thank him for all he did for the Ravens," he said.
