BALTIMORE - The Baltimore Ravens have signed veteran defensive lineman Chris Canty.

The announcement of Canty's deal Wednesday came as news of moving and shaking with the Ravens' roster dominated trending topics on social media feeds in the Baltimore area.

Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome says Canty was signed to a three-year contract.

Canty is entering his ninth NFL season. He's played in 113 games with 95 starts.

In a press release issued Wednesday, Newsome described Canty as an "upgrade" to the defense.

"We like the fact that he is coming from a winning franchise that recently won the Super Bowl. ...He can help us at both end and tackle," Newsome said.
