OWINGS MILLS, Md. -
Many Ravens fans already know Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome loves drafting players from his Alma Mater, University of Alabama. With the Ravens first pick, Ozzie drafted Alabama outside line backer Courtney Upshaw.
The Ravens also took Iowa State offensive tackle Kelechi Osemele, and Temple running back Bernard Pierce on Friday. The Ravens wasted no time in introducing them to the media.
All three draft picks were at the press conference held at the training facility in Owings Mills on Saturday where Coach Harbaugh said that Ravens nation is going to be excited when they get to know these guys.
“I’m very happy and honored to be a part of this defense, to play for this organization. ” said Courtney Upshaw. “Coach and Mr. Ozzie are great guys. I wouldn’t want it any other way”
Kelechi Osemele said “I’m happy about the situation I landed in. Being on a team like this, a very physical type of team, very smash mouth”, “it’s just the way that I like to play”
Bernard Pierce is also excited to be a Raven and said he can’t wait to contribute in any way necessary to make the roster.
The Ravens finished up the draft by getting guard/center Gino Gradkowski from the University of Delware, safety Christian Thompson from South Carolina State, Cornerback Asa Jackson from Cal Poly, wide receiver Tommy Streeter out of Miami and defensive lineman Deangelo Tyson from the University of Georgia.
