NEW ORLEANS - Custom bicycles with Ravens stickers and purple decorations – they were the weapon of choice for a group of Saints fans that still have a sour taste in their mouth for the 49ers.
The bicycle club, known in New Orleans as the Crescent City Peddlers, was set up outside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Saturday. They were getting ready to ride through town, drumming up support for the Baltimore Ravens with NFL football fans that would be pulling for the Saints on any other Sunday.
“We are having a black and gold ride today in support of the Ravens running the game. Normally every Sunday we ride, but since today was so nice, we figured not a better day to ride than the day before the Super Bowl,” said club president Wade Batiste.
“I don’t like the 49ers. I want ‘em to get whipped,” Batiste continued. “. They need to get whipped so next year when they come to the Saints, they get a double dose of what they need. We should’ve been there this year.”
In November the 49ers defeated the Saints in a game that sealed New Orleans’ fate for the 2012 season – no playoffs. In January of 2012, the 49ers defeated the Saints in the divisional playoffs.
Henry “Pops” Jones also doesn’t like the 49ers. It’s obvious by what he did to his custom bicycle. In the middle of a large speaker box that sits on his black and gold bike is a Ravens sticker.
“We are going for the Ravens Sunday,” Pops said. “We are riding for them, but we’re wearing our black and gold.”
There were about 100 bicycles affiliated with the Crescent City Peddlers that rolled out Saturday afternoon in support of the Baltimore Ravens.
