BALTIMORE - Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts will have season-ending surgery on his right hip.

Roberts made the announcement shortly before Sunday's game with the Oakland Athletics.  He was scheduled to make a rehabilitation start with Class A Aberdeen Sunday night.

Roberts says the torn labrum didn't improve has he had hoped.  He expects to have the operation in the next 10 days.  That surgery will keep him out four to six months, allowing him to return to the team in time for Spring Training.

The two-time All-Star missed the beginning of the season with concussion problems.  He returned in June, but was batting just .182 in 17 games before going on the disabled list in early July.
