LONDON - British doctors say a Pakistani girl shot in the head by Taliban fanatics will undergo one final surgery to cover the hole left in her skull with a titanium plate.

Dr. Dave Rosser of Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital says Malala Yousufzai will also be fitted with a cochlear implant to restore the hearing in one of her ears.

The 15-year-old was shot through the side of her face by Taliban angered at her objection to the group's interpretation of Islam, which limits girls' access to education.

Her story -- and her remarkable recovery -- captured world attention.

Rosser says Malala has been monitored for hormonal changes, memory loss and other long-term effects of brain trauma but that doctors have so far seen none.
